JIM SALO INTERVIEW 9-10-72 Says he took only one call from Rapid City Police during the a= early= evening of June 9th, and that was to advise no travel in west Rapid City. Says officer did not want to expand the message at all, but just no travel in west Rapid City. Said he thinks that call came in about 8:30 pm. He says he kept that message in radio and did not give it to DeWall or to TV. Says a message about national guard call-out was broadcasxt - after 7 pm ...about 7:15, he thinks. He seems to tkn think Charlotte took' that call but is not sure about it. Says he might have taken it, but seems to recall reading it from her writing on note paper like the rest of the messages were written on. EVENING 9—11 SALO SAYS HE LEFT THE STUDIO (SIGNED OFF THE BOARD) AT 10 PM. AND TURNED I T OVER TO PAT DENKE. SALO SAYS HE WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE (TO RASE AT 10:10 AND HEARD DENKE SAYING PEOPLE SHOULD EVACUATE IN THE VAC I N I TY OF JACKSON BLVD (SOUTH CANYON AREA). CAN'T REMEMBER IF DENKF QUOTFD ANY SOURCE. SAYS WE WEREN' T CARRYING REGULAR 10 PM NETWORK NEWS BUT ONLY SPECIAL MESSAGES AT THIS TIME. DOESN'T REMEMBER HIM SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT A TRAILER COURT, BUT EARLIER WE HAD SAID SOMETHING ABOUT A TRAILER COURT--AND IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE WRONG ONE. DEFINATELY REMEMBERS THE WORD "EVACUATE" FOR THE FIRST TIME THAT EVENING. HE THOUGHT MAYBE HE SHOULD TURN AROUND AND COME BACK TO THE STUDIO TO HELP...
